Many table top models are gone already, but you might find somewhere a few of the old ones in music museums. The music was played by a phonograph which some called a record. Most small jukeboxes had only about 10 to twenty selections. Resturants and eating places were there most common places to sit. Clubs, bars and dance halls also adopted jukeboxes when musicians were few.
Fast Facts:
The Jukebox was invented in 1869 and was called "The Nickel in the Slot Machine" because it cost a nickel to hear the song play.
Inventors: Louis Glass and William S. Arnold placed the first one in the city of San Francisco, California.
Jukeboxes became highly popular in the 1930's and continued popularity through the late 1970's
Today, Jukeboxes are considered a collector's item!
