Draw Me Nearer (439 hits)

Draw me nearer, nearer blessed Lord,
To the cross where thou hast died;
Draw me nearer, nearer blessed Lord,
To Thy precious, bleeding side
.

As a child of God, I at times find it very hard to hold on to the promises of God.  He said that He will never leave nor forsake us, but sometimes in the darkest part of the night,  I will awake from sleep with a feeling of dread and anxiety.  I don't feel God's comforting presence, I just feel so alone.

Some time ago, the above refrain of 'Draw Me Nearer,' kept playing repeatedly in my head.  Not all the time, but enough so that in the moments when I heard it, I had to stop whatever I was doing and just pray.  I figured it was the Holy Spirit in me reminding me to stop looking down so much and spend more time looking up.

'Draw Me Nearer,' written by Frances J. Crosby was published in 1875.  In reading the biography of this remarkable woman, I found that she was a prolific writer of poetry and hymns, many of which continue to be sung today.

Frances Crosby, though blind since six weeks of age, saw more clearly the love of God then those of us who are sighted and I think the hymns that she left will usher us infinitely faster into the presence of God in our time of pray and praise, because they were written from a heart of pure yearning and sweetness

For some reason, my links aren't linking. I must be tired, because I can't figure out what I did wrong, so here are the URLs if you want to find more about Fanny Crosby:
