Where Are You From? (262 hits)

Watch Isaiah Washington and anchorman, Ron Claiborne discover their African roots on Good Morning America.
Where are you from? Of course some of you will say your state or town, but where are you from in Africa? I was watching a documentary called "Black to Africa" and it was amazing to see the the excitement in the youths of Atlanta's faces as they stated, We're finally back home. Being the utube fan that I am, I went straigth to utube to find the documentary and stumbled upon some other clips which has inspired me to ask you guys~~ Where are you from?

I wasn't going to have this test done, but I've had a change of heart. It does make a difference when one can say where he/she is truly from. I'll make sure to feed you all back on the results when I get them. I think I'm from Sierre Leone honestly... by a hunch.

This is such a fabulous journey when you can go back and get a sense of home and belonging. I love it!

My ancestors are east African and I was born and raised in Somalia for the first 10 yrs of my life. Unfortunately civil wars amongst the people have ruined the country and forced a lot of folks to flee to other countries for safety. Poverty is also a huge problem there, making Somalia the poorest country in the world. Despite all the hardship, it gave many people the opportunity to go overseas and get an education, learn a new language and seek employment. Where we may not had the opportunity otherwise. So I'm very grateful for the blessings after the tragedy.

Hoda.

My family has trace roots back to Africa so I know that where my great, great, great, great grandfather came from. I know his nickname as he was called and I can actually see the record of the handwriting of my great aunts and uncles. I am blessed to have our roots traced and learn of my family tree. Our family is fortunate to know where we are from at least on the part of my father's family.

Enjoyed reading the blog....and best to you finding your ancestry.

@ Miisrael My African Queen! ((smiles))

@ Saint You should get the test done, too. The information you have about the Isralites and the 12 tribes will make even more sense. My husband from the Yoruba tribe from West Africa, Nigeria. Although I've studied his culture and his people, I still can't help feeling that something is missing.

@Sister Hoda pehaps Somolia will be next destination on my list right after Ethiopia of places to visit. I've read about the political unrest and fighting going on there. I hear there are rebels who are going to university campuses recruiting young Somoli men back to Somolia to fight recently.

I'm not sure about how authentic the method to determine ancestry is, but I do think that it does cure the sense of a homeless mentality.

Yes dear. There is a lot of chaos going on there. And the country is very lawless, if I can use that as a word. But It's still home to me and maybe one day Somali people (as well as a lot of us black folks worldwide) will learn to get along for the better of humanity and learn to live together.

Great blog sister and keep it coming.
