THE LINE OF DUTY
Sunday
July 03, 2011
Memphis, Tennessee

Around 7 p.m. Downtown Memphis looked like a war zone of police officers as blue lights came to the scene of a tragic shooting which left one of their own's life taken in a drastic consequence in the line of duty. The officer on duty responded first on the scene to a domestic dispute confrontation which left a man shot and killed. While there the attending officer was also shot in the face and later transported to the hospital where he died. Chaos filled streets around the Double Tree Hotel at the corner of Union and Third Street in downtown. Flashing blue lights and sirens made it look like a 3-D movie scene. The suspect was apprended and was also taken to the hospital for wounds made during his arrest. The deceased officer had only been on duty for 8 minutes before meeting his tragic death. The suspect has not been officially charged for the two deaths. Persons in the hotel lobby claimed they heard at least 5 gunshots fired which they at first thought were firecrakers, but discovered it was really gunshots.. Many ran in frantic fear! Outside streets were covered with officers and squad cars over several hours into the evening. The hotel was placed on shut down in additon to the Auto Zone Ball Park where a baseball game was being played. No spectators of the game or occupants of the hotel were allowed to leave for severals hours. Mayor Wharton and Chief Police Officer Tony Armstrong tried to explain the situation to the news media and the Mayor asked for "community prayers" for the officer's and the victim families. The officer killed was 38 years old leaves behind in the line of duty a wife and two young children. The officer was a native born of Cleveland, MS. Memphis policeman are highly grieved today, and some showed expressions that were very emotional at the crime scene.

"It was quite a scene and many people there couldn't believe this happening."
Pray. [A moment of silence]

I'll be around...
