He tells us, "THERE IS NO TRUE HAPPINESS FOR HUMAN BEINGS OTHER THAN CHANTING NAM-MYOHO- RENGE-KYO". He goes on to explain that while life is naturally filled with joy and suffering, ups and downs, there is a deeper and more enduring happiness. This he calls the "boundless joy of the law" that underlies and supersedes the cycle of temporary happiness and sufferings of all people. Nichiren identified the chanting of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo as the means to establish that kind of deep-seated, enduring and genuine happiness. (smile)

I remembering hearing that chant Nammyoho-renge-kyo in the "What's Love Got to Do With It" when Tina Turner played by Angela Bassett was with the ex back ground singer's house. It's sounded rather soothing and I've never forgot that phrase.

Because, more people on this site mostly see prayer/ religious action as not of our own will, in a sense when I call chanting praying it is false...inmy NDB religio or practice, the individual is the onlyone held responsible for their own actions...so our chant is more of a "Now when you finish praying, get u and make it a truth come to rality and if there is any thing out there stopping you never give in toit, because if you do you can never reach happiness that o one, person, thing can take from you in tis life time...this is called reaching Buddhahood...Buddha was a man just like you and me we don't try to shuck our duty by calling thisman a G-O-D for his teaching how to over come the problems of : births, sickness, old age and death along with we are human beings just as he was so were are his equal in our unlimitled powers to do right or to do wrong...TO BECOME A BUDDHA IN THIS LIFE TIME AS BUDDHA MEANS ONE WHO HAS BECOME ENLIGHTENED. (smile)
ONE OF THE HARDEST THING FOR ANYONE TO ACCOMPLISH IS TAKING FULL RESPONSIBALITY FOR THE CAUSES AND EFFECT THEY MAKE IN BETWEEN THE PERIODS OFBIRTH AND DEATH. LOL (SMILE)

Jen, you have seen our religon aT its VERY core and proofs of its "BOUNDLESS JOY". You experienced what we call HUMAN REVOLUTION VIA TINA TURNER. as our religion is about one either win or loose (AND, NOT ABOUT PUNISHMENT OR REWARDS)in life as well as Chanting is a call to action and actually how T.T. was able to become a Buddha/ to reach Buddhahood in THIS life time by...ACCEPTING HER BEING ABUSED WAS IKE'S WILL NOT TINA'S WILL AND SHE WENT INTO ACTION AND DID SOMETHING ABOUT IT! (SMILE)

@Jen I am so glad that you find our chant soothing, because it only boils down to the "I" AM THE ONLY EXPERT ON MY OWNSELF, BECAUSE ALL TAHT I HAVE BEEN, AM , WILL BE COMES FROM WITHING ME...this chant can be said by anyone at any time and I will use this to try and explain why we as NDB believe this with the following:
It is not a question of your environemnt of those around you, nor what the organization or leades may be like.To be swayed by such externals is pointless. It all comes down to one person : Y-O-U ....
What matters is that Y-O-U become a brilliant beacon, shining with joy and happiness, and live life with confidence and courage.If you shine with a radiant light, there can be no darkness in your life. (smile)
