I Need Your Imput on an Observation (912 hits)

On yesterday, I mentioned to one of my lunch mates who happens to be one of several people that meet up in the "Lunch Box" at lunch time that it's been my observation that Black women appear to be very guarded in general.

They seem to be guarded and hold back out of fear. I've even heard a couple of the sistahs mention that they have more male associates than female or that they don't have female associates (one or the other).

Although this may be what they believe works for them, I don't believe that its the best practice in the long run since what better person to understand what another woman goes through than a woman. (My opinion)

What are your thoughts on and have you heard about other similar complaints or experienced something similar?

That sounds on point what you have said and I can really appreciate all that you have said. If it 'really' hadn't been for the Lord, I don't know where I would be right about now regarding all the mess that goes on in families with Uncle Tyrone and dem. It's so common with the incest and stuff in our communities but we're good rug sweepers, eh. Well not me. I'm not the type to keep up appearances and helping others do their dirt by keeping silent. Well not any more at least. Hopefully the sisters will break their silence and at least let someone professional help because our silence continually betrays us.

I read your blog and I've reposted to the BWC site. I think its relevant and perhaps people aren't commenting because its still too, painful for them; however, I believe that they are reading and faith is being built to overcome fear of keeping silent. I remember the first time I told my mother what happened to me as a kid when I was in my early 30's. It was hard, but I was determined that she needed to know. Having said that, I had to build the faith and courage to speak out and it started with blogs like this until finally I felt the courage to talk about it.
