The New York Times BREAKING NEWS: Taliban Signal Readiness for Peace Talks (425 hits)


Tuesday, June 18, 2013 In a potentially groundbreaking move, the Taliban announced on Tuesday they were prepared to take the first step towards peace negotiations with the Afghanistan government after 12 years of war. The announcement came in Doha, the capital of Qatar, where negotiations have been underway for more than two years with a range of international participants to attempt start peace talks between the Taliban and the Afghan government. It would be the first time that the antagonists in the Afghanistan war have undertaken peace negotiations to end a conflict that has encumbered the United States since 2001, when American forces entered the country to rout Al Qaeda.

I guess the Takiban hasn't forgotten as evidenced by today's headlines~Ha!

"Afghanistan Rejects Talks With Taliban and the U.S." KABUL, Afghanistan — Less than 24 hours after the Taliban opened an office for peace talks in the Gulf emirate of Qatar, the Afghan government on Wednesday backed away from even starting discussions with its adversaries and broke off talks on future military cooperation with the United States.
