Why this Saudi Man is Receiving 1000 Lashes (2462 hits)

According to Reuters, Raif Badawi, a Saudi Arabian man who recently endured a severe flogging for crimes such as “disobeying his father,” “insulting Islam,” and “cyber crime” (also known as starting a website called “Free Saudi Liberals”), is not medically fit to endure more flogging:

“Badawi was subjected to the first 50 lashes a week ago and was due to be flogged again after Friday prayers, although Saudi authorities had come under Western pressure to call off the punishment.”

Allegedly, the prosecutors’ original intent was to try Badawi for apostasy, which would have resulted in the death penalty, but they decided to be a bit more kind, and gift him nearly a dozen years in prison, a light financial penalty, and some floggings:

“He [Badawi] was sentenced last year to 10 years in jail, a fine of 1 million riyals ($267,000) and 1,000 lashes after prosecutors challenged an earlier sentence of seven years and 600 lashes as too lenient.”

The pressure from Western groups such as Amnesty International has done little to stop Saudi Arabian authorities from continuing Badawi’s sentence. The only reason the authorities have postponed Badawi’s punishment is because the first round of lashes was so physically damaging that he has yet to heal enough to endure his next round.

Though the medical professional who examined Badawi recommended the postponement, according to Reuters:

“Amnesty [International] said ‘it is unclear whether the authorities will fully comply with this demand.'”

For the uninitiated, flogging is the process by which one is struck repeatedly on the back, and shoulders with a whip, the end of which is often wrapped around pieces of bone, and other sharp items in order to inflict the most damage.

Why this Saudi Man is Receiving 1000 Lashes

Great Article about the Laws of Sovereign Nations.........

I respect the Sovereign Laws of Every Nation...............

I understand that the Author of this article Adam Coogle an American Citizen wrote that this man is receiving 1000 Lashes because of his breaking of The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Law.

"....... May 7, 2014 conviction of liberal activist Raif Badawi. The court sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment and 1000 lashes for setting up a liberal website and allegedly insulting Islam and religious authorities.
Badawi can appeal the verdict, but unfortunately he’ll have to do so without the help of his lawyer, human rights activist Waleed Abu al-Khair. Abu al-Khair is currently in Riyadh’s Malaz Prison awaiting the resumption of his own criminal trial before Saudi Arabia’s terrorism tribunal, the Specialized Criminal Court, on charges that include “breaking allegiance with the king,” “making international organizations hostile to the kingdom,” and “setting up an unlicensed organization.”

Making matters worse, new terrorism regulations promulgated by Saudi authorities in 2014 criminalize, as terrorism-related offenses, acts such as “contact or correspondence with any groups [that are] hostile to the kingdom,” “making countries, committees, or international organizations antagonistic to the kingdom,” and “calling, participating, promoting, or inciting sit-ins [or] protests.”

Adam Coogle

Adam Coogle, an American Journalist has Written this Article about his Understanding of Law in The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia but he has NEVER written Articles about the Judicial Judgements of American Courts against Americans that make calls to relatives or friends around the world and are imprisoned for 20+ YEARS

OR has Adam Coogle EVER written about the Disregard for United States American Laws in the Cuban Island area of imprisionment Guantanamo, where no Judgement or Trials have been given to 1,000s of men, women and children.

We do pray that his Journalistic education and knowledge of Law can result in some mention of Judicial conduct in his own land.....
