5 Romantic Hot-Spring Getaways in Colorado (1928 hits)

It’s time to start thinking about a Valentine’s Day getaway. What’s more romantic than soaking in a hot, steaming spring with snowflakes falling gently all around you? Absolutely nothing.

Colorado is covered in hot springs. In fact, Colorado.com lists 27 in their online guide. Each is very different and offers an array of amenities, from private pools to onsite spas. There are even “wild” hot springs you can hike to, as covered in this Colorado Public Radio article.

1. THE SPRINGS

If you are looking for a high-end hot springs vacation, look no further than The Springs in Pagosa Springs. Their adults-only pools provide an escape for couples looking for romance. Order a cocktail from wait staff as they make their rounds at the pools, or enjoy a treatment at the onsite spa.

As a guest of The Springs, you’ll have 24-hour access to the pools. I recommend getting up early to experience a sunrise soak. You will not be disappointed.

2. COTTONWOOD HOT SPRINGS

For couples looking for a more rustic hot springs vacation, Cottonwood Hot Springs & Spa in Buena Vista may be just the ticket. Popular with old hippies and eco-friendly types, this place has a zen quality about it. Some of the Creekside Cabins have a private hot spring, so be sure to ask when you book.

3. IRON MOUNTAIN HOT SPRINGS

Colorado’s newest hot springs pool is Iron Mountain Hot Springs in Glenwood Springs. It’s a beautiful venue with 16 small pools situated on the banks of the Colorado River. Grab a glass of wine at the Sopris Cafe and watch the sunset turn the skies to fire. This is a getaway you won’t soon forget.

4. ORVIS HOT SPRINGS

Don’t want to pack a swimsuit? Clothing is optional at Orvis Hot Springs in Ridgway, Colorado. A small-but-gorgeous property, this could be the perfect romantic getaway for those without inhibitions. Orvis also offers accommodations in six bed-and-breakfast-style rooms, and guests have 24-hour soaking privileges.

5. WIESBADEN HOT SPRINGS

If you’re looking for a private place to soak with your Valentine, head to Ouray. The Historic Wiesbaden Hot Springs & Spa & Lodgings has got you covered. Their Lorelei private pool is fed by a waterfall from the hotel’s own hot springs, and it’s available for rent by the hour.

The Wiesbaden also has a vapor cave, and while caves make me claustrophobic, my husband loved the sauna-like atmosphere of these unique caves.
