A Time to Weep...
During the Christmas holiday last year, I read a story in our local newspaper that touched me deeply.
It was about a family who had lost their son in a roadside bombing in Iraq. The family lived in Country Club Hills, IL maybe 18 to 20 something miles from my doorstep.
Her son was in the Army, my son in the Marines. Her son was 27, the same age as my son.
I'm so sure that his mother's prayers were much the same as mine in that we both prayed for our sons' protection and safe keeping.
My heart ached for her loss and the pain she was feeling, even as my heart rejoiced.
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance.
Both our sons returned home for Christmas.
Her son to be laid to rest; my son to enjoy the holiday with family and friends.
One mother shed tears of sorrow, one mother shed tears of joy.
A terrible and horrible contradiction of war.
