Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Ephesians 19-20)
Lord, you gave me a song to sing. A song of the heart and soul, of comfort and hope. You gave me a song, a parting gift to remember you by. My song, first heard in the keening wail of a newborn's cry as I slipped from the comfort of my mother's womb into the waiting arms of the world.
Father, you gave me a song to sing - my heart song. Through the years the lyrics have been shaped and formed, a record of my journey back to you; from a little girl on my knees, prayerfully asking Lord, that my soul you'll keep, to a wife and mother calling on you Lord, on behalf of my husband and children.
There are times when my song comes through a voice raw and husky from the tears I've shed. There are times when fear and discouragement causes a jarring, discord of my song and my song is muted. I can't hear from you or reach out to you. My heart song seems lost forever, encased in crystallize ice.
In the long dark night of my soul, a glimmer of light breaks through and with it comes the morning. And oh the joy that floods my soul. My heart song which was dormant, breaks forth in joyful adoration. Praises wells up from the depths of my spirit in pure delight knowing that you are present and once again Lord, you have delivered and restored me.
Time and again you've directed me, adding to my heart song new words that fills my heart to overflowing. Sing to the Lord a new song
Sing to the Lord, all the earth
Sing to the Lord, praise his name
proclaim his salvation day after day (Psalm 96: 1-2)
